Manhwa: Crazy Girl Shin Bia

24 Nov

This manga had been on my to-read list for a while because it meets my favorite genres, but I felt it wouldn’t be that good, so I postponed it until a few weeks ago. While it wasn’t as bad as I thought, I’ve read better stories. But don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it a lot and had a good time.

General Information:

  • Author: Hwan, Mi Ri
  • Country: South Korea
  • Volumes: 19
  • Chapters: 85
  • Genre: shojo, romance, comedy, drama, fantasy, supernatural, historical
  • Status: Completed
  • Publishing date: 2008
  • Anime: No
  • Read it online on: mangafox or mangareader

Beautiful girl Shin Bia has always been alone, so she has had to learn how to stand up for herself and now she’s even stronger than boys in her neighborhood.

One day a strange tornado surrounds her and a necklace falls on her head. Soon she starts having dreams about a girl dressed in magnificent clothes. The girl looks just like Shin Bia and she seems to think she is about to die. The necklace is also present in the dreams, so they are connected somehow.

When a few days later Shin Bia is kidnapped by a group of rich boys, she decides to jump from a window before something horrible happens. But… she doesn’t die! Instead she finds herself in an old-fashioned world where men are stronger and far more train in the art of fighting than her.

Soon enough she is found out by prince Joo Baek and he mistakes her for his fiance, Celestial Bia, who has been thought to be dead in a recent attack. Bia is taken to the palace, where she will learn what “palace intrigues” really means as she tries to find out why she is there and how to go back to her world. Of curse, she will have to deceive them all!

Pretty good. Particularly, clothes and hair styles are beautifully drawn and very detailed.

The main leads are a bit too simple, specially the girl. Her stubbornness gets in the way of her intelligence too many times. She was ok, but sometimes I expected more of her than a tantrum. The prince was just the cool, powerful type of boy.

Mu Yeong (the main bad guy) is fairly good. He has many faces to show, so I think his character is better developed than the rest.

Yoo Hui (prince’s half brother) is a bit underdeveloped, which I think it is a petty because he could have been a better character than he is.

The best:

  • The art, clothes and hair styles.
  • The palace intrigues and Mu Yeong plotting add interest to the story.
  • Even if she is too stubborn sometimes, the female lead wasn’t a helpless child all the time.

The worst:

  • Characters a bit too simple at times. For example, I would have expected a bit more struggling after Joo Baek finds out that Shin Bia is not Celestial Bia. I agree there was no time for character development because the final battle starts not long after, though, but the final battle could have been postponed to make room for a bit of character development.
  • So, for this reason, it’s seems the end is a bit rush.

I enjoy the story overall, so I’ll give it an 7’5 out of 10.
