Movie: The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro

18 Apr

The_Amazing_Spiderman_2_posterI went to see Spider-Man yesterday as it was my birthday (yeah, thanks :D). I must say I really love this saga way more than the last one and I could tell from the first movie. Why? Well, I don’t really have a reason, but the first try was boring for me while this one makes me so excited! Also, this new saga is more accurate according to comics and cartoons and even if I’ve never read the comics and almost never watched the cartoons, I think it’s a good reason to give it all my support. From my experience, the more accurate a movie is, the better it is. The exceptions are few and none comes to mind right now. I have to watch the cartoons. I’t one of my pending tasks. Anyway, read thoroughly, watch the movie and comment (not necessarily in that order) this movie that I highly recommend.

Synopsis

Following the events of the last movie, Peter is still trying to figure out why his parents left him. He’s also struggling between his love for Gwen and the promise he made to her father on his deathbed, which makes Gwen consider the possibility of going to study abroad.

While fighting crime as Spider-Man, he saves Max Dillon, an employee at Oscorp who feels like a nobody. He later has an accident at the company when he falls on a tank of  electrical eels while fixing something and is electrocuted. Shortly after he raises as Electro, a villain full of hatred who Spider-Man managed to defeat on their first encounter.

At the same time, Norman Osborn, owner of Oscorp, dies of a rare hereditary illness and his son Harry comes back to New York after a long time to inherit the company. Peter pays Harry a visit and gives him his condolences as they were best friends when they were children and retake their friendship from there.

Harry tells Peter about his illness, which is already showing, and asks him to put him in contact with Spider-Man since Peter photographs Spider-Man for the newspaper. He has discovered in the company’s data that Spider-Man’s DNA may be the only way to heal him since all the mutated spiders were killed. Peter as Spider-Man refuses to help Harry because using his DNA would be too risky and warns him about it.

However, Harry doesn’t listen to his advice. When he is told that the spiders’ poison is still kept in Oscorp right before he is kicked out of the company, he decides to form an alliance with Electro, who has been imprisoned in an Oscorp facility, gets the poison and then… he uses it.

With so many things going on in his life, will Peter and Gwen be together at the end? will he ever discover what happened to his parents? What will happen during the showdown battle between Spider-Man and Electro? Or even worse, what will happen between Peter and his best friend?

The best

  • It’s action packed, but it’s also very emotive. You can feel Spider-Man’s struggles between love and responsibility and not be bored by it. A nice combination of action and emotion. Really nice.
  • The special effects. Awesome! I thought some parts were even too graphic and horrible for little children. But again, I may be too impressionable 😀
  • I haven’t read the comics and I almost don’t remember the cartoons, but I can tell it is more accurate to the original story than the previous saga.
  • Rhino makes an appearance and in some scenes we can see Doctor Octopus’ body and other villains, hinting to the next movie.
  • The music was very fitting, specially Electro’s guitar themes.
  • I like this Harry Osborn even if the previous one was more handsome 😛

The worst

  • CGI Electro looks too fake.

Score

9 out of 10.
