Manhwa: Do You Want To Try?

30 Jun

sywttDo You Want To Try? is one of those manhwa about gangs I’ve been reading recently and that are so popular among Korean authors. You may forgive me, for I don’t really remember much about this one, so I’ll label it right now as forgettable. But I kind of remember I enjoyed it, though. Weird.

General Information

  • Author: Cha Kyung Hee
  • Country: South Korea
  • Volumes: 5
  • Chapters: 18
  • Genre: comedy, drama, romance, school life, shojo, tragedy
  • Status: Completed
  • Publication date: 2006
  • Anime: No
  • Read it online on: mangafox

Synopsis:

Hye Won accidentally insults the handsome jjang (a gang leader) of Han Hwa Go High School over the phone and later kisses him accidentally too when he comes looking for revenge.

He lets her go, but later summons her because he wants to offer her a deal: she is to pose as his girlfriend so he can get read of another girl because apparently Hye Won has the guts to take on his stalker. The price: anything she wants. The punishment: slavery.

Will she success or will she end up as a slave?

Art:

The characters look really pretty. The backgrounds could be better, but since I like the characters, I’m not going to complain much.

Characters:

I know I liked all the characters in general, but it seems I can’t really remember them, so I think it’s more than fair to say they are forgettable. Probably just normal, not hateful or lovable. However, I like the lead’s friend. He was cute and funny.

The best:

  • Nice art.
  • Enjoyable, though forgettable.

The worst:

  • The end. Like… that was not necessary. It doesn’t really contribute to the story. I mean the author kills one of the characters just because she thinks there is not enough drama. At least, it seems so. If she’d had killed the character before, it would have seemed more meaningful… Don’t worry, it’s not any of the leads, but still it was one of the best characters in the manhwa.
  • Poor originality.
  • Lack of background stories. The female lead is the only one who have a decent story to tell, but it was underdeveloped anyway.

Score:

5 out of 10. Passed. I know I enjoyed it even if I don’t really remember and the art is pretty.

I totally agree with you. I read this manhwa some time ago and just when I thought the story was getting better and things were picking up, the end just killed it. I found it so unnecessary and redundant that it kind of leaves you with this hanging, abrupt feeling and that just sucked because I thought the story had potential to go on. Great, accurate detailing review 🙂

      Hehe Thanks ^^

Yeah. It should have been longer. What we have feels just like the beginning. I can see the story easily picking up from where it ended, even when this character’s death and all (don’t remember his name xD). His death wouldn’t be so pointless… And the way he died.. at least, make him die of his illness (or was it drugs?), not in a traffic accident…

Exactly, the whole story ended when it shouldn’t have and it killed most of our potentially high expectations of it. Also, like you mentioned, the story is rather forgettable. Right now I can’t even remember any other name in the story other than Hye Won’s hahaha. I actually think the friend needn’t have died at all, that was just so unnecessary and ridiculous, if I might say because it didn’t serve the story any purpose at all and nothing came out of it and nothing followed up after that.

As always, I totally agree 🙂
Is there any gang shoujo you like?

Hey! I totally forgot to reply to you, sorry for that. I’m not sure if the “gang” shoujos I’ve read are your kind of “gang”s because they aren’t the hooligan kind who recklessly go out to terrorise people and ride on motorbikes. The good “gang” shoujos I have read and like are:

    Rockin’ Heaven
    Akuto Danshi Collection
    Shounen Wa Amaku Aisu

A gang shoujo that I’ve read before involving motorbikes and delinquents (or rather, ex-delinquents) is “Heart”, which I read till the end but didn’t enjoy very much.

Tell me what you think! 🙂

Guess I’m replying late too! Sorry u.u
Thanks for all the recommendations. I’ll try to read them once I go back to reading gang shoujo 🙂
